Pink Mountaintops is one of the musical outlets of Stephen McBean, who also leads the band Black Mountain. When it comes to purveyors of stoned-out, sassy rock and roll, this guy holds his own. This is the best song on the album. With a Phil Spector-meets-Velvets' Third drum sound, it's a duet between McBean and Amber Webber, also of Black Mountain. Webber has a great female rock and roll voice, not at all affected and very soulful. McBean sounds like early Jonathan Richman or Bill Callahan of Smog here. In the story, these two lovers--her a model, him a street punk--"fuck" on "some rocks" one night, and afterwards go their separate ways (she back to Paree, he to "hang on the street"). I mean, come on. Who hasn't had a few tourists in their town?
