Video: Vampire Weekend - "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa"

Vampire Weekend attempt to cram an hour and a half worth of John Hughes teen melodrama into three and a half minutes as Pretty in Pink supernaturally morphs into "Just Like Heaven" in this video for "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" from the band's self-titled debut album.

Video: Vampire Weekend on SNL

The cute-o-meter went berserk this weekend when Amy Adams hosted Saturday Night Live with preppy blog gods Vampire Weekend. No matter how lame the skits were, we couldn't take our eyes off of Adams' winning smile or the dead Muppet that was wrapped around the Vampire Weekend keyboardist's neck.

What the Future Holds for Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend New York Magazine's Vulture looks into its crystal ball to see what's in store for the divisive New York buzz band in this clever piece:
In late 2008, after Vampire Weekend has guested on Saturday Night Live, sold out the Theater at Madison Square Garden for nine consecutive nights, and licensed songs for commercials for every product in Apple's lineup, Zach Braff discovers a hip, new underground band called "Vampire Weekend." He adds them to the soundtrack for his new movie, a coming-of-age story about Zach Braff sleeping with whichever currently popular 22-year-old actress is the hottest. He explains in the CD's liner notes: "Their songs sound like Graceland by Paul Simon, another artist with which I am newly familiar." [Read More]

Vampire Weekend... Heard Of 'Em?

Vampire Weekend The New York Times does its best to remind everyone that members of Vampire Weekend are smart, privileged, dress preppie, went to Columbia, and are ridiculously hyped. Their debut album is catchy as hell, but darn you music journalists! Can we avoid the talking points for one article?
The guys are just as studied when it comes to fashion, with a preference for blazers, button-downs and other blue-blood affectations. Mr. Koenig said he had found his cardigan, decorated with embroidered pheasants, at a Ralph Lauren boutique in Palo Alto, Calif. "I've got another one that's yellow with dogs on it," he said. Vampire Weekend Talk Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend Vampire Weekend bassist Chris Baio (no relation that we're aware of) talks to Billboard about the latest, official version of their self titled debut. The Ivy League "buzz band" will release Vampire Weekend on January 29th via XL Recordings.
"I feel like a lot of people have heard of us, starting in the summer, and they've been writing about a speculative way," bassist Chris Baio tells Billboard.com. "Maybe they've only heard three MP3s or seen us live. I think we've all been pretty anxious to have it out there."

...

"I think this version represents our full sound," Baio says. "There were some sections where drum parts were changed; some vocals might have been redone, and I re-recorded bass for one song. Little touch-ups [like] that might not make a difference to most listeners but made a difference to us." [Read More]

Here is the first video from that self-titled album for the song "A-Punk." Brought to you by the MTV and their indie wing, Subterranean.

"Recorded entirely under solar power," Brightblack Morning Light like things like tee-pees, headbands and most likely hallucinogenic drugs. More solar power to 'em. Their second album of slow motion hippie blues, Motion to Rejoin, is due September 23rd on Matador. [DOWNLOAD]

Consider Rook essential summer listening. Like your "Summer Reading" list, Rook isn't really "summer-y" at all. It's heavy, dense, dramatic and beautiful and dark. Four of those five adjectives actually DO apply to summer, come to think of it... - jimtarnation  [READ REVIEW]
