MP3: Spoon - "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" Demo

Spoon Thanks to a special treat offered on the Spoon website we find out that the Motown stomp of Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga's "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" began life as a quasi-country ditty. While not as effective as the catchy-as-hell album version, "Cherry Bomb Country" is certainly a fun listen that provides great insight into the band's writing process.

Video: Spoon - "Don't You Evah"

Spoon's Hall & Oates-errific "Don't You Evah" is now represented in video form thanks to some footage from the band's recent months on the road supporting their latest, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. The song is actually a cover of a Natural History song from their second album, People That I Meet.

Video: Spoon on AOL's the DL

Spoon Spoon stopped by (deep breath) AOL's Spinner's The Interface's The DL for an in-studio performance and chat. Britt Daniel never looked more like a young Gary Busey as he performed "I Summon You," "Rhthm and Soul," and our personal fav, "Black Like Me," before sitting down for a fairly retarded interview.

The New Yorker Reviews Spoon's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Spoon The Spoon press blitz continues with an article in this week's New Yorker—who call Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Spoon's "best yet."
“Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga” builds on work that began on the band’s third album, “Girls Can Tell,” which was released in 2001. In simple terms, this is what happened: a piano. In the late nineties, after Spoon had a brief and unhappy association with Elektra (the band’s contract was terminated after it released a single album), Daniel started writing songs around rudimentary piano figures and cut back on the guitar playing. The result was minimalist but propulsive music that resembled dance music. [Read More]
Following the Shins, Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse, will the build-up propel the album to the top charts in the second week of July? Isn't this kind of perfect pop something indie-rockers and frat boys can all agree on? Will Gore run in '08?

My Magic 8-Ball says, "Signs point to yes." Sweet!

In other Spoon news, a new song has been added to the Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga album stream: the awesome fifth track, "Rhthm & Soul."

Full Album Stream: Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga We've been going ga ga for Spoon's latest. (Yeah, that was a pretty lame joke.) Now you can listen to the entire album and see what all the fuss is about—assuming you haven't sniffed it out by other means. Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga has been in heavy rotation at DC HQ, particularly the closing track, "Black Like Me." Pick it up on July 10 thanks to Merge Records.

And while we're on the subject of Merge and their impeccable taste, stream the Ladybug Transistor's latest which came out this week.

Tunng's Sam Genders and the Memory Band's Stephen Cracknell remove the "tronica" from the "folk" and go the more traditional route here on their debut album, There Were Wolves. Other tracks display plenty of experimentation, mind you. It's out June 3rd via Thrill Jockey. [DOWNLOAD]
