Stream: Of Montreal - "Gallery Piece" from Skeletal Lamping

Of Montreal We're not totally sure if this is the entirety of "Gallery Piece" or not. But it does sound like there is a quick fade over a drum machine break at the end which would, presumably, segue into "Women's Studies Victims." Kevin Barnes definitely has the funk on this first glimpse at Skeletal Lamping and he wants to do all kinds of dirty things to you... 200 times a day!

UPDATE: "Gallery Piece" seems to have mysteriously vanished from the website Fairtilizer-- where it was streaming. La Baleine Distribution handles the delivery of things Of Montreal in France and it appears they may have jumped the gun in posting the song.

Of Montreal Reveal Skeletal Lamping Cover Art and Tracklist

Of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping With three months to go until its October 7th release date, Of Montreal have unveiled the cover art and tracklist for their ninth album, Skeletal Lamping. Three months means promos are on the way, so the leaky internet and its MP3 hungry Millennial overlords are drooling. Until then, get a load of their latest head-scratching press shot and head over to You Ain't No Picasso for an insightful interview with ring-leader Kevin Barnes:
What will you remember when you look back at this album?

I think that… I think it really was inspired by the commercial backlash when I was getting a lot of backlash from the Outback Steakhouse commercial. I think it did influence me as far as like “I’ll show them I’m not a sell-out. I’ll show them how talented I am…. I can’t be marginalized. I have a lot of value”

I’d never had to deal with that before because we were always so underground. It was a weird thing to face. You can only have backlash if you have success and we’d never really had success, so I’d never had to deal with backlash. So I definitely think that played a part psychologically in the making of the record.
Of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping Tracklist:

1. Nonpareil of Favor
2. Wicked Wisdom
3. For Our Elegant Caste
4. Touched Something's Hollow
5. An Eluardian Instance
6. Gallery Piece
7. Women's Studies Victims
8. St.Exquisite's Confessions
9. Triphallus, to Punctuate!
10. And I've Seen a Bloody Shadow
11. Plastis Wafers
12. Death Is Not a Parallel Move
13. Beware Our Nubile Miscreants
14. Mingusings
15. Id Engager

Kevin Barnes Talks Of Montreal's Skeletal Lamping

Kevin Barnes Last month, Kevin Barnes broke news on Of Montreal's MySpace blog that his latest opus, Skeletal Lamping, was in the can. He expounds on those musings to Billboard and reveals a few track titles:
Barnes says "Beware Our Nubile Miscreants" is "the most wicked thing I've ever written," while opener "Nonpareil of Favor" "definitely goes somewhere musically that is totally unlike anything I've ever done before."

For Barnes, delving into deeply personal topics has become something of a therapeutic outlet. "I start to feel unbalanced if too much time passes without me being able to record," he says. "I need to shut out the world and disappear into the void. In a way it is like meditation. It definitely gives me a sense of value too. Even if other people hate what I create, as long as I like it, I'm fine. The new record doesn't deal with as many romantic or psychological issues. It is a very personal record still. It is more sexual and frisky than 'Hissing.'" [Read More]
Skeletal Lamping is due October 7th via Polyvinyl.

Of Montreal's Skeletal Lamping Due in October

Kevin Barnes Kevin Barnes dropped news sure to excite indie music fans and ad execs the world over today on Of Montreal's MySpace blog. His follow-up to last year's wildly successful Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? should hit record store shelves sometime in October—which means it'll materialize on some dudes blog in late summer. It's called Skeletal Lamping and it's all about "capturing the labyrinthine complexity of this human consciousness." So says Mr. Barnes:
i've finished the new album. i've been working on it for over a year. it's mastered and ready to go.

it won't come out till october though. i am very happy with it. i worry that some people are going to misunderstand it. there's nothing i can do about that though, now, it is done. anyways,i didn't create it to give people something to like. i created it because i was compelled to.

Video: Of Montreal - "Suffer for Fashion"

When Kevin Barnes sings, "I know we suffer for fashion or whatever," he really means it. Norwegian clothing designer Sigrid Astrup directs the latest Of Montreal video and, well... it seems to suffer for fashion.

A Late Night with Of Montreal
Kevin Barnes and his entourage will be appearing on Late Night with Conan O'Brien tonight (4/12). No word on what costume the flamboyant Barnes will sport (if any).

In other news, Barnes will be making a more revealing appearance in Playgirl magazine in the near future. He talks to Pitchfork about baring all, writing songs for the next Of Montreal record, and the band's upcoming karaoke shows.

Consider Rook essential summer listening. Like your "Summer Reading" list, Rook isn't really "summer-y" at all. It's heavy, dense, dramatic and beautiful and dark. Four of those five adjectives actually DO apply to summer, come to think of it... - jimtarnation  [READ REVIEW]
