The latest addition to the Barsuk roster comes from offspring of another of the label's acts. Menomena drummer/vocalist Danny Seim's Lackthereof has been floating under the blog radar so far after self-releasing six CD-R's followed by 2004's Christian the Christian and the vinyl/digital only My Haunted (2008)—both on FILMguerrero. According to the label, Lackthereof isn't a Menomena side project but rather it's the other way around. Danny Seim began the Lackthereof project in 1997. His other band Menomena started as a side project in 2000, and took over because Seim felt less self-conscious as a drummer than as a singer-songwriter.
Lackthereof's Your Anchor will be available in July and you can sample a few tracks on some website called MySpace. For an idea of where Seim may draw musical inspiration from check out the On The List feature he did for us back when Menomena's Friend and Foe was sweeping the indie nation.
