Dylan's Newport Performances Coming to DVD

Welcome to the autumn of Bob Dylan. Earlier this month, various forms of the compilation Dylan were released and on October 30th both the soundtrack to the forthcoming Dylan biopic, I'm Not There (which debuts on November 30th), and a DVD of Dylan's Newport performances are released.

The Other Side of the Mirror: Live at Newport Folk Festival 1963-1965 is the first official full release of the Newport appearances and, of course, includes that fateful night in '65 when Dylan changed it all. Definitely looking forward to finally seeing that full performance of "Like a Rolling Stone." Enjoy the trailer...

Video: Bob Dylan - "Most Likely You Go Your Way..." Mark Ronson Remix

Showing the restraint and respect that most remixers are allergic to, Mark Ronson updates Dylan's Blonde on Blonde side 3 opener, "Most Likely You Go Your Way And I'll Go Mine," with little more than added brass and a beefed up rhythm section more suitable for the dance floor. Thank God this didn't turn out to be some techno joke.

The remix is part of the forthcoming retrospective, Dylan, which comes in three forms: single disc with 18 songs, three-disc set with 51 songs, and limited deluxe edition box. All versions are due October 1st on Columbia. More information on all of that here.

Dylan Biopic, I'm Not There, Trailer and Release Date

I'm Not There The New York Times is reporting that the Todd Haynes directed Bob Dylan biopic, I'm Not There, will open in New York at the tiny art-house cinema Film Forum on November 21st. Harvey Weinstein tells the Times:
"With a movie like this you have to build it," said Mr. Weinstein, who founded the company with his brother, Bob, two years ago after an acrimonious split from the Walt Disney Company saw them relinquish control of Miramax. "I don't think you can go out on 500 screens. The reason for Film Forum is you go where the best word of mouth is on the movie. I like the movie; I think it's adventurous. The audience is going to have to work — work in a good way."
Here's a first look at the trailer:

And if you'd prefer a higher quality version...

QuickTime: I'm Not There Trailer (24.4 MB)

Dylan is portrayed by six different actors including Cate Blanchett, Richard Gere, Christian Bale and Heath Ledger through various stages of his life. Here's a look at Blanchett's mid-sixties Dylan meeting David Cross's kooky Allen Ginsberg:

Consider Rook essential summer listening. Like your "Summer Reading" list, Rook isn't really "summer-y" at all. It's heavy, dense, dramatic and beautiful and dark. Four of those five adjectives actually DO apply to summer, come to think of it... - jimtarnation  [READ REVIEW]
