Exclusive: Unreleased Flaming Lips MP3

Summercamp In honor of the Flaming Lips appearance at today's Summer Camp Festival in Chillicothe, Illinois we're making available an unreleased track from their original contribution to the soundtrack of the charming 2006 documentary Summercamp!. Ahhh, synchronicity.

Longtime Lips collaborator Bradley Beesley (Fearless Freaks, Okie Noodling) and Sarah Price (The Yes Men) directed the film, which isn't yet Netflixable but is available for purchase on the film's website. Without further ado, let's all sing along...

Video: Citay - "Eye on the Dollar"

Citay's excellent Little Kingdom solidified the Frisco band as premier purveyors of early '70s influenced acoustic jams. Their blend of the earthier side of Zeppelin, Heart, and more recently, the Byrds has yielded two outstanding albums and now we're finally treated to a video for "Eye on the Dollar."

Check out a better quality version here.

Video: Weezer - "Pork and Beans"

Although it was a return to power pop form, we weren't entirely won over by the goofy lyrics of "Pork and Beans." Rivers and the gang turn that goofiness into an enjoyable video with their takes on some of YouTube's greatest hits.

Yet another self-titled affair ("The Red Album") is due June 24th.

Video: Band Of Horses - "No One's Gonna Love You"

Band Of Horses have thrown together a video for "No One's Gonna Love You" from last year's Cease To Begin. There's a decent amount of tour footage, good ol' fashioned goofing around, and a lot of smashing bottles over one another's heads. Man, those guys are tough! (via Stereogum)

Okkervil River's The Stand Ins Due in September

Okkervil River Pitchfork reports that Okkervil River's fifth full-length album, The Stand Ins, is set to drop on September 9th via Jagjaguwar.
The set is described as a sequel to last year's exquisite The Stage Names LP, which its equally Tinseltown-ready title would allude to.

You'll recall that The Stage Names was originally conceived as a double album, as Will Sheff touched on in our interview with him from last summer. Guess this is that, then?

Built To Spill Working on New Album

Built To Spill Billboard reports that Built to Spill have finished basic tracking for a forthcoming as-yet-untitled album. Not due until spring '09, the album will come on the heels of the band's fall tour performing their 1997 album Perfect From Now On.
As for the new album, the songs will be a mix between newly penned material and retooled tracks considered but ultimately dropped from Built To Spill's prior album, 2006's "You in Reverse." Guitarist Doug Martsch tells Billboard.com the sessions have been more collaborative than ever, owing to the fact that the band is recording to Pro Tools rather than analog tape.

"You have endless tracks, so [all three Built To Spill guitarists] can be in a room together and do five takes," he says, adding, "Then, hopefully somebody can go through it and find out what's good." [Read More]

The Hold Steady The Hold Steady have given us our first preview of their forthcoming Stay Positive with "Sequestered in Memphis." The lead single is streaming on the band's MySpace page and doesn't stray too far from the bar band sound that landed them on 2006 "best of" lists with Boys and Girls in America.

Stay Positive is due July 15th on Vagrant.

Featured Review

Loving the studio, and tripling up on the harmonies, the horns, the guitars and the energy, Fate is easily the band's best album. Maybe not necessarily the best set of songs, but definitely the best time you can have with a Dr. Dog LP... - jimtarnation  [READ REVIEW]
