Full Album Stream: She & Him - Volume One

She & Him Acting and playing music don't go together like chocolate and peanut butter. Yet after a few listens to Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward's debut as She & Him we have to question our thespian musician theory. Volume One is actually a surprisingly competent and enjoyable listen that tends toward countrified '70s A.M. gold. It's out today on Merge.

The Raconteurs To Release New Album Next Week

The Raconteurs In what appears to be a move to fight the inevitable leak months before its release, the Raconteurs have announced the surprise release of their second album, Consolers of the Lonely, on March 25th. (via Billboard)
"The purpose: to get the album to the fans as soon as possible and as we promised," the Jack White-featuring band says. "We wanted to get this record to fans, the press, radio, etc., all at the EXACT SAME TIME so that no one has an upper hand on anyone else regarding it's [sic] availability, reception or perception."

...

"We wanted to explore the idea of releasing an album everywhere at once and THEN marketing and promoting it thereafter," the band says. "The Raconteurs would rather this release not be defined by its first week sales, pre-release promotion or by someone defining it FOR YOU before you get to hear it."
No need to shout, Jack...

In Case You Haven't Heard, Brooklyn is Totally Cool

Brooklyn You've heard it all before, but the New York Times weighs in on Brooklyn's "alt-rock" scene (Is that term coming back?) in this thorough, if not immediate, profile of the hippest of New York boroughs.
SHOUTS of “Brooklyn!” cut through the applause at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on Valentine’s Day for the sold-out homecoming show of Yeasayer and MGMT, two of the borough’s reigning new buzz bands. And as Yeasayer rang out the last chords of “2080,” an echoey, disorienting song about environmental apocalypse, its singer, Chris Keating, made an announcement.

“We’re going to play that on TV tomorrow,” he said with pride and disbelief, as the band members traded shrugs. “Yeah, TV,” he added. “Seriously. Conan O’Brien, tomorrow night.”

The crowd roared its approval. “Brooklyn!” [Read More]

My Morning Jacket Reveal New Album Tracklist, Release Date

My Morning Jacket Billboard goes nuts whilst describing MMJ's apparently eclectic forthcoming album, Evil Urges—out June 10th on ATO. While we haven't had the pleasure of hearing a second of the band's "sonic curveball," we'd be remiss if we didn't point out repellent depictions such as "a falsetto-driven groove-fest" and "robotic funk." Say it ain't so, Jimmy James!

My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges Tracklist:

1. Evil Urges
2. Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Part 1
3. Highly Suspicious
4. I'm Amazed
5. Thank You Too
6. Sec Walkin'
7. Two Halves
8. Librarian
9. Look at You
10. Aluminum Park
11. Remnants
12. Smokin From Shootin
13. Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Part 2
14. Good Intentions

Video: Vampire Weekend on SNL

The cute-o-meter went berserk this weekend when Amy Adams hosted Saturday Night Live with preppy blog gods Vampire Weekend. No matter how lame the skits were, we couldn't take our eyes off of Adams' winning smile or the dead Muppet that was wrapped around the Vampire Weekend keyboardist's neck.

Video: Beach House on Tour in England

Beach House Not much more than Victoria and Alex goofing around on tour in England to the soundtrack of "Gila," but that's enough to keep our attention for the five minutes of this Amazon.com exclusive video.

Video: Clinic - "The Witch"

Clinic doesn't stray far from the formula used on their last video from the forthcoming Do It! Most likely they were shot on the same day judging by the Tiki theme and Hawaiian shirts. But the autoharp psychedliea of "The Witch" is just what the surgeon ordered.

Do It! is out April 8th on Domino.

"Recorded entirely under solar power," Brightblack Morning Light like things like tee-pees, headbands and most likely hallucinogenic drugs. More solar power to 'em. Their second album of slow motion hippie blues, Motion to Rejoin, is due September 23rd on Matador. [DOWNLOAD]

Featured Review

Consider Rook essential summer listening. Like your "Summer Reading" list, Rook isn't really "summer-y" at all. It's heavy, dense, dramatic and beautiful and dark. Four of those five adjectives actually DO apply to summer, come to think of it... - jimtarnation  [READ REVIEW]
