Buddy song par-excellence.

4. Tom T. Hall - That's How I Got To Memphis

Sad.

5. Nitty Gritty Dirtband - Some of Shelley's blues

Good-time music.

6. Jerry Jeff Walker - Song For The Life

Celebrating the life.

7. Ron Elliott - All time green

I've got an idea what this is about, but it's the feel I relate to the most.

8. The Byrds - Tulsa County

I love to sing along to this song. And the subtle little emphasis the band gives the last "Mex-i-co" is genius.

9. Terry Melcher - Just a Season

Terry's finest hour. I love how the strings respond when he says "people goin' crazy," and also his beautiful falsetto.

10. Jerry Jeff Walker - Gettin' by

"Just gettin' by on gettin' by's my stock in trade / Pickin' up the pieces wherever they fall / Just livin' my life / easy come, easy go"

11. Johnny Darrell - Willin'

In my mind this Lowell George-penned number is my theme song for an old friend who, no matter what, was always willin'.

12. Don Williams - If Hollywood Don't Need You

Kind of a companion piece to Jackson Browne's Mae Jean Goes to Hollywood, I always liked the chorus: "If you see Burt Reynolds would you shake his hand for me?"

13. Sir Douglas Quintet - Texas Me

A song about a guy asking himself what happened to the person he used to be.

14. Johnny Darrell - Why You Been Gone So Long?

Clarence White at his twangy, string-bending best.

15. John Phillips - Topanga Canyon

About scoring drugs and hanging out and taking it easy.

16. Tim Hardin - Black Sheep Boy

I love this song.

17. Langley Schools Music Project - Desperado

This little girl's version of this song clued me in to how much I like this song. It's a good way to go out.
