10 Songs For Your First Dance and The One We Picked For Ours

Marriage isn't for everybody. Frankly, the sight of two people in love makes many people throw up in their mouth. But if you just can't help yourselves, here's a few songs to dance to after the deed is done.

Jenny: My friend Ron turned me onto this song years ago. Who knew that this former teenage heartthrob had a dark side? Lee and I brutally destroyed this song once at a show in front of his brother.

Lee: Why this song wasn't a hit is beyond me. Dion's voice is one of the few insanely powerful ones that make me cry instead of cringe. Still can't tell if "The Wanderer" is talking about love or drugs.

Lee: Being my favorite modern band, Destroyer was making this list no matter what the theme was. This song in particular is a heart crusher. Daniel Bejar is so lyrically intriguing. The one songwriter that I can't rip off undetected.

Jenny: We could have listed 10 Destroyer songs and called it a day. We got to play a show with Dan a few years ago the night before I had a final exam. All I could think about the next day was how great they were! Basically, I blame Dan for my F in Psychology.

Lee: Dave Davies was quoted as saying that this was his finest studio moment. While this song is actually a testament of devotion to brother Ray, if you can erase that fact from your mind, you have a beautiful love song on your hands.

Jenny: I don't know how I'd ever get through work at the bar without The Kinks. They are the one band that no one ever complains about.

Lee: The only issue with this as a "first dance song" will be keeping your friends and family off the dance floor until it's done. The bass line alone renders any listener a helpless sexy dancing beast.

Jenny: This song is one reason for all of the Yoko-haters to shut the "F" up.

Lee: How best to describe "Transpo"? Every description is likely to mislead you. A straight three-piece rock band that could floor ANY audience whether they are unassuming or fully jaded. Amazing songs for lovers and fist pumping rockers alike.

Jenny: Get your lighters ready for sing along heaven.

Jenny: An obvious pick, yes, but The Zombies have always been a favorite of mine. I never get tired of trying to sing the second verse, and it never goes very well.

Lee: She sings it as well as anyone who's not a Zombie. That band was basically a flock of songbirds with guitars.

Jenny: Fred and Toody are two of the most inspiring people in rock n' roll ever, and it goes way beyond just their music.

Lee: Music too tough to die.

Jenny: This song used to be on the jukebox at the bar where we work. It was always my favorite song to dance to with Lee. We actually ended up playing this song at our wedding with our friends The Kingsbury Manx and I got to fulfill my dream of playing drums in my wedding dress.

Lee: I got to fulfill my dream of singing like Lou Reed in a white suit in public.

Lee: This song is off of what is arguably my favorite local album "I Need You". The Holland brothers are masters of two aspects of songwriting that I admire very much: simplicity and repetition. One of the only bands that get away with "jamming" in my book.

Jenny: Great songs by two of the nicest guys in town.
Buy: Amazon
Jenny: Duh. Bread is awesome. I used to feel like I was supposed to be embarrassed of liking them, and now it's ok? I can't keep up with you people!

Lee: OK... this was Jenny's pick, but if we actually get to "make it" after listening to it, I'm in.

Jenny: Ewww. Nobody wants to hear that.
Buy: Amazon   iTunes
Jenny: This is the song we chose. Our friend Kirk wrote it about his wife Sally, who is the kind of woman I'd like to be. She is tough, yet sweet and knows everything about gardening.

Lee: A no-brainer for us. A song about the lives of two lifelong "punks" loving their way through a loveless world.

There you have it. For better or for worse. And as always, no drinks on the dance floor.
