Shared members with the United States Of America. I once read that these guys are probably all teaching at universities now. Probably. Some sophisticated stuff. Wouldn't know it from this tune.

4. Bulent - Olmali Mi Olmamali Mi

Turkish singer/songwriter from the early seventies. A kind of upbeat song, but still maintains a steadfast sadness.

5. Le Stelle di Mario Schifano - E Dopo

Arty Italians inspired by Warhol/VU. How did they get that fuzz on the guitar? Marianne Faithful ran away with Schifano when she briefly left Mick in the late '60's.

6. Chimera (1969) - Lady With Bullets In Her Hair

Members of Pink Floyd backed for this one record project. This particular song is arranged in the baroque style. Very cool lady with that distant/elusive vibe (see also early Marianne Faithful).

7. Margo Guryan - Sunday Morning

Finally reissued on vinyl. New York singer/writer/arranger. Not too dissimilar to Claudine Longet (whom she wrote for). If you like your sweet, sweet sugar...

9. Marianne Faithfull - Tomorrow's Calling

Before her comeback, Faithfull was very successful with three LPs for London records. Classic production of the time. The records are inconsistent, made up of cover songs, she tends to be as good as the material she's working with. This one is very beautiful. And as with Chimera evokes the "free spirit".

10. Tim Buckley - It Happens Every Time

Many great Buckley records. This is more in the pop realm for him. Usually backed by Lee Underwood on Guitar. A great guitarist. Kind of reminds of Gabor Szabo; fluid and easy, with lots of time.
