On The List: Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear Guest List

So if anyone else in the band had done a playlist for you all, it would have been probably 90% music before 1980, and really obscure to boot. Which is great because they are constantly exposing me to stuff I'd have never found out about. Whereas my role in the van is to keep the boys in check with new music. Me being an internet dork I find myself with dozens of Mp3s, so for every Judee Sill they play for me, I bring a Hot Chip to the table. So yeah, that's my disclaimer, nothing too old on this playlist. haha...

I have to give Chris Taylor a lot of credit for turning me onto Diane Cluck, because I had heard one song of hers and it just happened to be an off one for me so I sort of didn't pay much attention to here until CT exposed me to this track, which is one of the most gorgeous songs I've ever heard. Her and the diamond mine and the millions of harmonies make for a lovely three an a half minutes. I've still yet to see her live, but I've heard only the best of thing.

PREfection was a heavy, heavy staple in our van last year and we were all so annoyed more people didn't freak out over it. This is from his EP but probably my favorite track of his when all is said and done.

I give the blogs credit for this one. I mean I had their first album, but was sort of under whelmed by it, but when I downloaded Roscoe back in January, I essentially did ten cartwheels in my room and played it on repeat daily up until this day. Somewhere someone likened the beginning chords to the theme song of M*A*S*H which is so true. Again, harmonies galore. I love harmonies as you can tell.

Everything I read about this band, which is close to nothing, would usually raise red flags and make me run for the hills, i.e.: "sounds like Interpol", "LA hipsters" etc. But damn, this song owns me and I love it. I really want them to release a full album.

One day I decided to listen to all the bands that added me on MySpace, something I usually don't do, but I'm glad I did because I chanced upon Magic Arm and instantly fell in love with this sort of Beta Band-ish song.

I love Phoenix through and through and I love their new album and I'm jealous of Sofia Coppola because she gets to date the singer. This is their single and sure enough I like it, a lot.

I realize more and more I'm beginning to sound like a crazed fan-boy for Hot Chip because every interview we do always asks "what are you listening to?" and I fanatically replay "HOT CHIP I LOVE THEM!!! AHHHH", and then I blog about them on our website and well, I think I'm becoming a creepy stalker fan. It's that good, at least I think so.

I don't know anything about this band except it's connected somehow to Morgan Geist who I love.

I don't know why people shit on this band. I love their CDs, especially the first one and the EP. We just played a live show with them two nights ago. A totally different experience than the CD, but intriguing nevertheless.

This is another van staple for all of us. And we all agree it's their best album to date. Excited to be on a label with them!!!

I don't even know how I got this CD because I've never read a word about them or heard a peep from a friend regarding them. So, to me they are an entire mystery. I should bother Googling. I can tell they are British (thanks to their accents) and this song is one of my favorites of theirs.

Nothing to say, just like it.
