When I first saw that Pitchfork gave this CD a grade of 0.6, I was in disbelief of how bad this cd could actually be. No way the band who gave us The Blue Album, and Pinkerton could make music this bad. Even though The Green Album and Maladroit weren't on par with their older work, they were no where near the worst cds ever made. But when I listened to "Beverly Hills", "Perfect Situation" and "This is Such a Pity" on iTunes, i discovered this rating was entirely true.
The "Gimme! Gimme!" section of the chorus on "Beverly Hills" is one of the biggest offenses to music I have ever heard. All of the lyrics in every single song talks about somehow being a teenager. But these guys are in their late 20's early 30's. The lyrics by Rivers Cuomo hit a peak on Pinkerton, on that album we saw a new side of him, true confessions and actual anger at the world. Since then all he writes are bubblegum pop songs with no depth to them. Instead of being the pioneers of the loathsome emo scene, Weezer has joined the fray and now copies off themselves rather than changing their sound and trying something different. The band hasn't been the same since Matt Sharp left. Maybe there's a correlation there?
Is it just me or does every Weezer song follow the exact same pattern? The guitar solo sounds the exact same every time too?
(Verse, Chorus, Guitar solo, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Guitar solo, Chorus)
Recomended tracks: Stay away! These songs are dangerous when listened too!
