I'd heard Tortoise's name floating around for about a year or two until I finally heard them recently. This is the album I will look into deeply first.

To begin, I will report that "Tortoise" is a great name for this band. This is a very conceptual album. People looking for insane musicianship or song structure won't find much to love on this. Tortoise is a band for people who notice the underlying concepts the music is trying to put forth, and Tortoise does this really well.

It's music that's slow but sure. Whenever one of their unique transitions occur, though, they seldom go unnoticed. This album makes great background music, and the production value is very interesting, in that the instruments are very light-sounding but come with a lot of punch and solidity. I got memories of Mice Parade while listening to this. It's ambitious music that's quite original and very laid-back. I enjoyed this CD, and will probably find more things to like about it with more listening done.

This is definitely a good album by a good band, and anybody who has not yet heard Tortoise should.
