Rated Member Rating by Tully on 04/23/2008

If there was one thing that kept me from giving my entire body, mind, heart, and soul over to Panda Bear's "Person Pitch," it was its overall synthetic production, as opposed to a more earthy, analog sound (i.e., actual instrumentation). Which is the first thing that jumped out at me when I heard "Sea Lion" for the first time. While it shares a similar communal, traditional, tribal spirit to "Person Pitch," its man-made, organic production feels even more exhilarating to me, at least on an immediate, superficial level. I've read criticisms of this record that blame it for being "all over the map," but to me that's what makes it so exciting and makes me return to it more than just about anything that's been released this year. "Sea Lion" feels like it was made for me and my current state-of-mind. Yummy, yummy, yummy!
