I forgot how young--but he was, like, 21 or something when he made this, his debut album. And it's a masterpiece. Songwriting of the highest order. Kristofferson discovered him, and the press immediately loved him. I found him when I was about 15, and still listen to him regularly. He's got a lot of great albums, but this one is way up there. It's unbelievably heavy and heady songwriting for a 21 year old. His ruminations on loneliness and growing old are moving, and his political songs, like Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore," are unfortunately quite relevant today.
