I Am Kloot is a band whose debut CD sat unopened on my desk for a year before I slipped it into my ears. From that day on I have been a dedicated fan. It seems that I Am Kloot capture a rather specific crowd but those folks are hardcore fans. And so here I sit following suit. Gods And Monsters is their second release for the Echo Label and is a bit of a step out of the norm for the trio. Where the self titled CD was simple, elegant, stripped down and melodic, Gods And Monsters is a bit grittier and considerably darker. Kloot worked harder on stronger drum lines and layering of sounds like keys and random percussion not used on past releases. Those of you who liked the previous releases will certainly not be disappointed with this one. John's vocals still let loose on the twists of pleasure and bitterness, beer and life, love and leftovers. And the packaging is laced with art by rock screen print pro Jay Ryan. Stand out tracks are No Direction Home, Over My Shoulder, Sand And Glue and Gods And Monsters.
